What to Know So You Can Network Well

Networking matters. It is a good idea to understand how to network. No matter what type of business you are in, and especially if you searching for a job or will be looking for a new one in the future, a network can be very helpful to you. Having a solid network of professional contacts is useful; this allows one to have people in the community that can assist in times of need. When looking for a job, this group of contacts, your network, will help. That is why our recruiters should be in your network. Our recruiters have relationships with hiring managers, so it would be good to have them in your network. That being said, you need to know how to network and how to do so authentically.

Here is some advice on how to network and gain connections authentically:

  1. SHOW UP – attend industry events and conferences in order to connect with others and meet people that are interested in the same fields as you; this will allow you to meet industry workers and leaders at these events and conferences
  2. REACH OUT – connect with people via LinkedIn and send them a message expressing interest in discussing your career or industry; this can lead to follow up with a phone call and even a meeting in the future and this can lead you to solid connections in your industry
  3. TAKE A WIDE VIEW – do not limit yourself; consider reaching out to those in other industries and begin to explore connecting with people in industries other than the one that you are familiar with the most; diversify and you will have a wide range of connections in various fields
