The Top Cars Manufactured and Purchased by Americans

The American Auto Industry was once the backbone of manufacturing in the United States and, in many ways, it still plays a huge part in the overall state of American manufacturing today. But are people buying American made cars still? And what constitutes an American made car?

As of the most recent reports in 2013, the top 10 most American-made automobiles are:

10. Toyota Sienna Assembled in: Princeton, IN Percentage Made in USA: 75%

9. Toyota Camry Assembled in: Georgetown, KY Percentage Made in USA: 75%

8. Ford F-150 Assembled in: Dearborn, MI & Kansas City, MO Percentage Made in USA: 75%

7. Dodge Avenger Assembled in: Sterling Heights, MI Percentage Made in USA: 75%

6. Honda Crosstour Assembled in: East Liberty, OH Percentage Made in USA: 75%

5. Honda Odyssey Assembled in: Lincoln, AK Percentage Made in USA: 75%

4. Buick Enclave/Chevrolet Traverse/GMC Acadia Assembled in: Lansing, MI Percentage Made in USA: 77%

3. Toyota Avalon Assembled in: Georgetown, KY Percentage Made in USA: 80%

2. Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana Assembled in: Wentzville, MO Percentage Made in USA: 80%

1. Ford Expedition Assembled in: Louisville, KY Percentage Made in USA: 80%

While half of the cars on this list are not technically considered American automobiles, they still are made on American soil by Americans. Just because the car is designed and owned by a foreign car company does not necessarily mean it can’t be considered an American-made car.

So how many of these top automobiles are Americans actually buying? Here are the top selling cars this year as of June, 2013.

10. Ford Escape Sales through June: 156,626 vehicles

9. Honda Civic Sales through June: 158,704 vehicles

8. Toyota Corolla/Toyota Matrix Sales through June: 158,972 vehicles

7. Ford Fusion Sales through June: 161,146 vehicles

6. Nissan Altima Sales through June: 167,787 vehicles

5. Ram 1500 Sales through June: 170,319 vehicles

4. Honda Accord Sales through June: 186,860 vehicles

3. Toyota Camry Sales through June: 207,626 vehicles

2. Chevrolet Silverado Sales through June: 242,586 vehicles

1. Ford F-Series Sales through June: 367,486 vehicles

The only crossovers on the lists are the Ford F-150 and Toyota Camry, but it appears as if Americans are still buying cars made in the US. In fact, half of the top selling cars of this year are American made.
